Miranda Krekovic
Dear friends and colleagues,
I want to use my personal story with two goals in mind:
Firstly, I want to inspire and encourage everyone to engage in sports and embark on novel exciting experiences accessible to the physically fit individuals!
Secondly, I strongly believe that the indirect and direct benefits of doing sports can go far beyond individual accomplishments. Sport can contribute to healthier and more connected families, communities and those less fortunate!
I purchased a road bike only 2 years ago, as soon as my meniscus tear was diagnosed, which temporarily prevented me from running. I fell in love with cycling from the first moment. Immediately I planned my first summer bike packing vacation and was amazed to see how much distance one can cover with their own power! Then I decided to combine various activities and use my road bike to commute to hikes, via ferratas, and even ski touring and mountaineering trips!
Personally, I became physically and mentally stronger and started running again. However, after crossing numerous mountain passes and covering many kilometres on my bike alone, I started to wonder: “and now what”? I could go further, I could go higher, but I know that happiness is only real when shared (McCandless).
I believe that I am not the only one with such thoughts.
Then I came across the charity organisation Summits4Hope and their project letsRIDE4KIDS - NEVER RIDE ALONE, and I was inspired to see such a strongly committed community! I wanted to become part of it.
Since 2020, Summits4Hope, in collaboration with WATER FOR WATER, has freed over 10,000 children from their sanitation nightmare at a total of 6 schools. And after the pandemic, 95,000 schoolchildren were able to return to school early in 2022 thanks to the funding of hygiene measures.
Now they will implement two more WASH projects for 3,000 children at the primary schools EPC Catembe and 9 de Agosto. I cannot emphasize enough how important these water, sanitation and hygiene projects are to the health and future of these children.
As a charity rider, I will paricipate at TORTOUR MYSELF and try to complete as many laps as possible in 24 hours. I'll start on Friday evening and cycle through the night until Saturday at 5 p.m.
This is an entirely new territory for me, but with the support of the letsRIDE4KIDS team, I know that I will find my motivating force: when in awe, I will remind myself that the team together and together with you is on a mission that is a way larger than our personal goals!
I would be very happy if you supported me in this project with a donation so that Summits4Hope can free these children from their sanitation nightmare.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I'm look forward to a lot of support!
Yours, Miranda
